About Our Mission

The Maritime Brotherhood is a community focused on supporting men's mental health through connection, conversation, and shared experience.

Brandon Humphrey

My name is Brandon Humphrey, and I’m 37 years old. I’m married to my beautiful wife, Vanessa, and together we have a wonderful three-year-old daughter, Magnolia. I have been medically released from the Canadian Armed Forces after 19 years of service and am now pursuing studies to become a cybersecurity analyst. I was diagnosed with chronic adjustment disorder, and anxiety, largely stemming from my 2011 six-month deployment to Kandahar, Afghanistan. While stationed at FOB Graceland, I worked as Defense & Security and a detainee handler, personally processing almost 30 detainees during that time. These experiences left a lasting impact on my mental health, and I’m currently in trauma therapy at Stadacona as part of my recovery.

Thankfully, I’m doing much better now and have found purpose in helping others. When Kyle Murphy approached me with the idea for the Maritime Brotherhood, I was immediately on board. My goal is to support as many people as possible and contribute to creating a safe and welcoming space for men to discuss their struggles and find community.

Kyle Murphy

Kyle has been instrumental in shaping The Maritime Brotherhood, a community built to foster connection, support, and camaraderie among men. The idea for the group came from a deeply personal moment of empathy: after hearing someone express their struggle with feeling disconnected, Kyle knew something needed to change. Driven by his own experiences with PTSD, addiction, and the challenges of military life, Kyle has helped create a space where men can share their stories, build meaningful relationships, and support one another without judgment.

As an empathy-driven leader, Kyle believes in meeting people where they are and understanding their struggles to create solutions that truly make a difference. His approach to leadership is about listening, connecting, and taking action to help others find a sense of belonging and purpose. When he’s not focused on The Maritime Brotherhood, Kyle enjoys off-roading, snowboarding, and playing music. He’s also a strong advocate for mental health, using his own journey as a way to inspire hope and resilience in others. The Maritime Brotherhood is a reflection of Kyle’s belief in the power of empathy and connection to build a stronger, more supportive community for men across the Maritimes.
